I published a new overview article on the global human rights situation of queer people on the website of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. The article replaces an earlier version that I wrote almost 10 years ago. A lot has changed in the meantime. The focus of social struggles and hostilities in the West is now on trans people, rather than gays and lesbians. And the erosion of global constitutionalism - driven not only by authoritarian regimes, but also by the increasingly clear double standards of Western diplomacy - is making it more difficult to campaign for queer human rights.

Discrimination and human rights violations against LGBTIQ* people are being denounced in many countries today. At the same time, hate crimes and conflicts about the prevailing norms of bisexuality and heterosexuality have increased. What does this mean for the situation of LGBTIQ* people?
